MONITOR BLEED AIR · PUBLIC INFORMATION

About This Project & Editorial Policy

Effective October 20, 2026 · Public information, source transparency, and clear limits.

A concerned citizen searching for answers.

Monitor Bleed Air was created by Alan Olsen, an author and concerned citizen, in memory of his friend Captain Dan Omerza. Alan is not a pilot, scientist, or engineer. His purpose is to organize the public record, ask useful questions, and encourage better measurement of aircraft cabin and cockpit air.

This is a citizen-led information and advocacy project. It is not an aviation authority, scientific laboratory, medical service, or equipment-certification body. Advocacy for measurement is identified as a policy position, not presented as scientific consensus.

How information is gathered.

AI tools assist with finding public records, organizing sources, comparing documents, drafting summaries, and checking consistency. AI can make mistakes, miss developments, or misinterpret a source. A generated answer alone is not evidence.

We prioritize original government records, official study reports, published research, standards-body documents, and identifiable operator records. Press releases, testimony, manufacturer statements, union statements, and media reports can identify leads; their authorship and evidentiary limits matter.

We check that each linked source supports the specific statement made. A source’s publication date, the event date, and our verification date are distinguished where available. Older research is labeled historically; it is not assumed to describe current practice.

Review and fact checking.

Alan is responsible for editorial decisions and publication. Automated checks and AI-assisted source comparisons support that process; they are not independent scientific peer review. This site does not claim that an independent pilot, engineer, scientist, physician, or lawyer has reviewed every page.

Before a substantive update is published, the review should confirm the original source, date, exact scope, and the distinction between fact and interpretation. Unresolved claims are qualified or withheld. A proposal is not a rule; testimony is not a committee finding; approval is not deployment; an exposure measurement is not proof of medical causation.

Update schedule.

The existing Bleed Air Safety Watch checks for material developments daily. Its Monday run also prepares a weekly editorial review and bulletin draft. The first Monday review in January, April, July, and October includes a broader factual and link audit.

These scheduled checks prepare material for Alan’s review. They do not automatically publish to the website. Publication occurs after editorial review, when verified developments or corrections warrant it. A missed run or unavailable source can delay a check; the latest published verification date, not the planned schedule, shows how current an entry is.

If no material change is verified, a review may report “No material change verified in the sources checked,” with its scope and access limitations. This is not a claim that nothing happened anywhere.

Health, aviation, and legal limits.

Content is general public information, not medical, operational, engineering, or legal advice. It should not replace qualified professional advice, approved aircraft procedures, or instructions from an airline crew.

Dan lived with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, whose cause was unknown. This site does not claim that bleed-air exposure caused his illness. Reports of symptoms, measured contaminants, possible mechanisms, and demonstrated causation are different kinds of evidence.

Research or product inclusion is not an endorsement or assurance of safety. No review is exhaustive, and missing evidence is not proof that a system or event does not exist.

Books and editorial independence.

Alan is the author of the novel Bleed Air. This website links to his book and author site; he has a financial interest in book sales. The novel is fiction and is not used as evidence for factual claims. Readers complete purchases with the bookseller.

The site does not represent FAA, the National Academies, an airline, manufacturer, union, or standards body. We assess claims by the supporting record and remain open to evidence that changes a conclusion.

Corrections and source submissions.

To suggest a correction, email aolsen@80lastacts.com with the page address, disputed wording, and an original source. Please do not send private medical records or confidential material.

Submissions are leads for review, not automatically accepted or published. Material corrections will identify the affected statement, the change, date, and reason in the corrections and verification log. Minor spelling or layout fixes may be made without a separate entry. No response time is guaranteed.
